Can someone paraphrase what this means?

This sounds like the "Deerhunter", a great film. The director wanted to have the audience "feel" they were watching a doentary about some people in Pennsylavania and how they lived and how they were affected once some of the men went to war. It's called "realism". (Having lived in a PA steel town, I can tell you they looked EXACTLY as depicted)
