I have a flu, is it normal to get a sore throat ?

Yesterday, i caught a flu (not swine flu), and i started to cough a bit. few hours later my throat started to hurt ,then it went away and it did not hurt so much. Today when i woke up, it was so painful, and is annoying. So i am wondering, could it be cause because of the flu i have ?
