Is the pope the antichrist?

While Catholicism has taken great liberties with the Bible, and has manipulated scripture for its own power, the Pope is not outright worshiped by Catholics (close, but not quite). He does not pretend to actually BE God, even if his church pretends that he has nearly equal authority. The characteristics of the antichrist are fairly clear, and the self-interested bureaucracy that is the Catholic church just doesn't quite fulfill that.
