Keyboard help. please?

My keyboard is misbehaving. When typing, the control + function of keys occur. Example, in word when I press u, just u sometimes it turns on the underline function. Also b,h,i etc. On the Internet, same thing, t opens a new tab. I have a Dell laptop. Any suggestions of why this is happening?
